COLLEGE STATION - Texas A&M senior Laura Grace Robinson was selected to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week and freshman Beth West was named the Coaches’ Spotlight of the Week on Wednesday.
Robinson was chosen for the Elite Team in addition to being named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. West was selected by the A&M coaching staff as it highlights a player who made a great impact in team success the previous week.
Robinson scored the game-winning goal and assisted the third goal in a 5-0 shutout of Oklahoma. The midfielder from Houston, Texas, also netted the first goal two minutes into a win over then No. 10 Oklahoma State. She led the Aggies with five points over the weekend.
West set up both goals in A&M’s 2-1 defeat of OSU. Two minutes into the match, the Centennial, Colo., native was fouled at the top of the penalty box. After a blocked free kick, the midfielder collected the ball and pushed it through to the foot of Robinson who put the ball in the back of the net. With the game tied 1-1, West assisted the game-winner by sending a cross to fellow freshman Jennifer Kmezich who headed the ball in for a goal. West also started at midfield and recorded a shot against Oklahoma.
West was a member of the U-18, U-17, U-16 and U-15 Women’s National Team and was a three-time all state selection at Grandview High School. She played club soccer for Real Colorado National and led them to the USYS National Championship in 2006.
The seventh-ranked Aggies return to the pitch on Friday to host Nebraska at 7:30 p.m.
