MADRID, Spain -- Hall of Fame golfer Seve Ballesteros underwent surgery to remove a brain tumor and the 51-year-old Spaniard Is "conscious and stable" a day after the operation. A hospital spokeswoman says a sizable part of the tumor was removed and it will be several days before the results are known.

The 51-year-old Spaniard briefly lost consciousness on Oct. 6
and was admitted to the hospital, where the tumor was discovered.

Ballesteros won three British Opens and two Masters
championships before retiring last year due to a long history of
back pain.
