DALLAS -– Senior Bronson Burgoon played the last eight holes in six-under-par in Monday’s first round as No. 22-ranked Texas A&M charged into the lead at the Baylor Intercollegiate at Royal Oaks Country Club.
Burgoon was three-over after 10 holes, then birdied five straight before capping his round with another birdie on the par-5 18th. Burgoon’s three-under 68 leads the individual standings by two strokes going into this afternoon’s second round. The final round is Tuesday.
A&M carded a four-over 288 to lead the team standings by three shots over No. 14 Arkansas (291). New Mexico is in third (292), followed by Lamar (297), Oklahoma (298), SMU (299), No. 17 Baylor (304), Houston (305), BYU (306), Charleston (309), Kansas (314) and St. Mary’s (Calif.) (317).
A&M junior Andrew Pavan carded a 72, sophomores John Hurley and Conrad Shindler had 74s, and junior Austin Schauer shot an 80. Freshman Jordan Russell, playing as an individual, shot a 78.
