Turgeon Pleased With Progress

COLLEGE STATION – Texas A&M Head Coach Mark Turgeon said he was pleased with the Aggies’ early progress after the team played in a pair of short intrasquad scrimmages on Saturday at Reed Arena.

Led by Josh Carter’s 11 points, the Maroon team won the first 15-minute scrimmage, 37-26, Chinemelu Elonu added 10 points for the Maroon while Bryan Davis led the White with 9 points.

In the second scrimmage, Nathan Walkup scored 10 points to pace the White to a 34-28 victory. Freshman David Loubeau had 10 points to lead the Maroon.

“Overall, I was pretty pleased with the scrimmages,” Turgeon said. “Our execution was pretty good for this early in the season. We were sharing the ball and trying to do the right things. I thought our transition offense was better than it was at any time last year. As the scrimmages wore on, I was a little disappointed in our transition defense and our rebounding.”

The Aggies play host to Texas A&M-Kingsville in an exhibition game on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at Reed Arena. A&M opens the regular season at home against Arkansas-Pine Bluff on Nov. 16.
