NEW YORK – The Texas A&M women’s basketball team tied a program-best No. 11 preseason national ranking in the preseason Associated Press Top 25 poll released on Saturday.
The Aggies are making their fourth all-time appearance in the preseason AP Poll next to being selected No. 11 prior to the 2007-08 season, a year in which A&M reached the NCAA Elite Eight and won the Big 12 Conference Tournament title for the first time in school history. The Aggies were the second-highest ranked school from the Big 12, which tied the ACC with five overall conference team selections to the preseason AP Poll.
Sixth-year head coach Gary Blair and his coaching staff return one of the deepest squads in program history including All-Big 12 First Team selections and All-America candidates Takia Starks (Houston, Texas) and Danielle Gant (Oklahoma City, Okla.) who led the Aggies to their first-ever NCAA regional final appearance a year ago.
Women’s college basketball analysts also agreed with the AP Poll voting panel as A&M was picked No. 4, No. 11 and among the top 16 in several preseason polls published this fall.
The Aggies host their lone exhibition game against the Houston Jaguars on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7 p.m., prior to opening up the 2008-09 season with their home opener versus Mercer on Friday, Nov. 14 at 8 p.m. Fans can purchase season and single game tickets by calling The 12th Man Foundation Ticket Center at: 979-845-2311 or 1-888-99-AGGIE.
