Hoover Picks Up Win

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M freshman men’s tennis player Colin Hoover (Victoria, Texas) reached the semifinals of the flight “B” singles draw at the University of Texas Invitational held Saturday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

Hoover gave up just one game to Drake Kakar of Marquette, 6-0, 6-1, in quarterfinal action. He will take on Mindaugas Celedinas of UT Arlington in the semis tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.

In the flight “A” singles draw, junior Marcus Lunt (San Antonio, Texas) moved on to the quarterfinals with a walkover versus Andre Moreira of UTSA, prior to falling to Ashwin Vijayaragavan of UT-Pan American, 6-3, 6-4.

Hoover and Lunt also turned in a good run in doubles competition played on Saturday. The Aggie duo lost a close quarterfinal match to Kellen Damico and Jon Wiegand of Texas, 8-5, by way of defeating David Simson and Yannick Weihs of Denver, 8-4, in the round of 16 and Beau Bernstein and Shashank Vij of UT-Pan American, 8-2, in the round of 32.
