REUNION, Fla. -- No. 23-ranked Texas A&M beat No. 22 Florida, 3-2, before falling to No. 10 Vanderbilt, 2-1-2, on Monday at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship at the Ginn Reunion Resort.
The Aggies meet Arizona on Tuesday in the 11th-place match.
Against Florida, A&M got victories from Sarah Zwartynski (def. Nicole Schachner, 6 and 5), Lauren Johnson (def. Brittany Nelson, 2 and 1) and Crystal Reeves (def. Lauren Uzelatz, 6 and 4). Alexa Porter lost to Evan Jensen (2 up) and Ashley Freeman fell to Andrea Watts (1 up).
Zwartynski notched A&M's lone victory aginast Vanderbilt, defeating Andrea Messer, 5 and 4. Johnson (vs. Megan Grehan) and Jodi Neal (vs. Jacqui Concolino) halved their matches, while Freeman was defeated by Marina Elex (6 and 4) and Reeves lost to Brooke Goodwin (2 and 1).
Arizona opened with a 3-1-1 win against Tennessee before losing to Kent State, 3-2.
Michigan State pulled off one of the biggest upsets in the event's history, winning a tiebreaker against top-ranked UCLA (2-1-1) in the first round.
