COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Christina Amo, Stephanie Davidson and Ashley Turpin will represent Texas A&M at the North Texas Tennis Classic Friday and Saturday at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton, Texas. The tournament marks the final competition of the fall campaign for the Aggies.
Other schools represented include Ohio State, South Alabama and Tulsa, who all finished in the Top 50 in the final 2008 ITA spring team rankings. North Texas and Texas-El Paso also will be competing.
Action begins Friday with doubles matches at 10 a.m. followed by singles at 11 a.m. Another session of doubles and singles will be played at 4 and 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The tournament concludes Saturday with doubles at 10 a.m. and singles at 11 a.m.
The two-day tournament was a late addition to the A&M schedule and was picked up by Aggie coach Bobby Kleinecke to give the three players more competition experience.
“I decided to add this tournament after Stephanie became ill and was unable to attend the Milwaukee tournament at the beginning of the fall,” Kleinecke said. “It’s also a chance for each of these players to get some extra time on the court, and it is a good opportunity to finish the fall competing and see where we stand before our off-season break.”
The Aggies open the spring season Jan. 24 as they play host to the University of Denver. First serve is at 1 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
