KILLEEN -- The A&M Consolidated Tiger football team posted a 35-21 victory over the Ellison Eagles Thursday night at Leo Buckley Stadium. The win clinched a playoff spot for the Tigers as they improve to (6-4 overall, 5-2 in 12-5A).
With the game tied at 7 and Ellison on the move, Andrew Fletcher came up with an interception and returned it to the Eagles 34 yard line.
The Tigers turned the turnover into points and took a 14-7 lead in the second quarter after the 25 yard touchdown run by Chris Nutall. The TD run wrapping up a 3 play 66 yard drive that took just 1:06.
The Tigers took a 21-7 lead at the break and scored on its first two possessions in the second half to preserve the win.
A&M Consolidated's ground game chewed up 319 yards courtesy of Nutall who rushed for 181 yards and scored two touchdowns, while Clinton Banks added 138 yards and two scores.
The victory sends Consol to the playoffs for a fourth straight year. The Tigers will be the Division One top seed from 12-5A.
A&M Consolidated will meet either Mesquite or DeSoto next week in the first round of the playoffs set for Waco I.S.D. Stadium at 7:30.
