The No. 6 Blinn Buccaneers (9-2) accepted an invitation to play No. 12 Fort Scott Community College of (9-2) on Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. in the CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl in Copperas Cove. Blinn secured the automatic bid to the bowl with a 49-24 victory over top-ranked Navarro College to win the Southwest Junior College Football Conference Championship. The Bucs are expected to move up in the NJCAA poll to be released tomorrow.

Blinn began the season by defeating the preseason favorite, Butler Community College 23-20. Blinn then held the No. 1 position for three weeks until losing 20-17 in triple overtime at Kilgore College on Sept. 27. The Bucs’ only other loss came in the regular season finale with No. 1 Navarro. In the conference playoffs, Blinn beat Kilgore 52-42 to earn the rematch with Navarro.

Blinn head coach Brad Franchione was named SWJCFC Coach of the Year. Blinn has averaged 43 points per game and has outscored its opponents 477-182. Blinn won the national championship under Coach Franchione in 2006 and also earned the title in 1995 and 1996.

The Greyhounds’ two losses came at the end of the year with a regular season loss to No. 3 Butler and a playoff loss to No. 15 Hutchinson in a Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference semi-final game.
