CHILLAN, Chile – Texas A&M soccer player Alyssa Mautz is set to compete in the 2008 FIFA Under-20 World Cup this week as a member of the U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team.

The U.S. begins competition at the World Cup in Group B against France on Wednesday, Nov. 19 and continues on Saturday, Nov. 22 against Argentina. The team travels to Temuco, Chile, for its final game of group play against China on Wednesday, Nov. 26. Every U.S. game at the World Cup will be broadcast live on ESPN2 and shown on delay on Galavision.

In order to advance, the U.S. needs to finish either first or second in its group. The quarterfinal round is set to begin Dec. 1, followed by the semifinals Dec. 4 and the final on Dec. 7.

A sophomore from O’Fallon, Mo., Mautz will wear jersey number seven and is one of five forwards on the 20-member U.S. U-20 WNT. The team arrived in Santiago, Chile, on Nov. 15 for two days of training before traveling further south along the Andes Mountains to Chillan.

Mautz tallied 13 points on five goals and three assists this season for the Aggies. The forward netted four goals in her last two games, including her first career hat-trick against Houston Baptist. Mautz also contributed two assists in the match for a career-best, eight-point performance.

While Mautz competes for the U.S. in Chile, the Aggie soccer team continues its run in the NCAA Tournament facing Florida in the Sweet 16 on Sunday. Kickoff is slated for 12 p.m. CT in Gainesville, Fla.
