COOKS POINT -- Caldwell, Iola, Centerville, Bellville & Magnolia are still alive in the state volleyball tournament that resumes Thursday afternoon in San Marcos.
The Centerville Tigers (45-1) will serve things up in the Class 2A semifinals that begin at 1 p.m at Strahan Coliseum on the Texas State campus. They will take on Wallis Brazos (33-10). Followed by Pottsboro (36-5) and Bushland (30-10) which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
The two winners will play in the 2A State Championship match Saturday at 11 a.m.
Class 4A will follow the 2A Final Four. Magnolia (32-13) will meet Hereford (43-3) in the first game at 5 p.m. The other 4A semifinal will match Dallas Highland Park (38-8) against Austin Lake Travis (37-9) at 7 p.m.
The two winners in Class 4A will play for its state championship at 5 p.m. on Saturday.
Class A is one of the most intriguing for folks in the Brazos Valley as Iola (38-3) takes on unbeaten Albany (42-0) Friday morning at 9 a.m. The Lady Bulldogs have been state ranked the entire year and are currently ranked second in Class A, they'll have to hand the Lady Lions their first loss of the year if they hope to advance to the Class A Championship game on Saturday at 9 a.m.
Iola is making its 3rd straight trip to state and has yet to advance past the semifinals. Awaiting the Iola-Albany winner is either 12 time state champion Windthorst (39-3) or Shiner (31-6), they will play at 11 a.m. following the Iola game.
Class 3A will begin the afternoon session on Friday with District 24-3A champion Caldwell (29-14) taking on Lucas Lovejoy (38-5) at 1 p.m.
This is Caldwell's sixth trip to state and the 10 year anniversary of the Lady Hornets 3A title run in 1998 which current Caldwell head coach Jane Anne Giese was an outside hitter on that team.
The Caldwell-Love Joy winner will advance to Saturday's 3A championship game to battle either Bellville (37-7) or Brownwood (32-9).
This will be Bellville's 14th appearance at the State Tournament and the Brahmanettes bring a 15 game winning streak into it's 3 o'clock game on Friday.
Class 5A's match-up will be Amarillo (46-3) against Clear Creek (41-4) on Friday at 5 p.m. Lake Highlands (45-4) will take on Austin Westlake (39-7) in the other 5A semifinal game. The 5A championship game will be Saturday night at 7 p.m.
