SAN MARCOS -- The Iola Lady Bulldog Volleyball team said after its win over previously unbeaten Albany on Friday that their goal in Saturday's Class A State Championship game against Windthorst was to win the school's first team state championship.
The Lady Bulldogs pushed 12-time state champion Windthorst to a fifth set, but was denied its goal in a 5 set thriller this morning at Strahan Coliseum on the Texas State University Campus (16-25,24-26,20-25,20-25,10-15).
Iola went to the State Touranment this year with a goal of not only taking home the gold medal, but wanted a rematch with Windthorst who eliminated them at the state tournament the last two years.
Iola finishes its season at (39-4) while Windthorst, who claimed its 13th State Volleyball Championship wrapped up a (41-3) campaign.
Highlights and postgame reaction will be on News 3 later on today.
