IRVING -- Texas A&M women’s basketball player Sydney Carter (DeSoto, Texas) picked up her first career weekly honor as she was named co-Big 12 Conference Freshmen of the Week on Monday by a media voting panel for games of Nov. 24-30.

Carter came off the bench to make key plays in No. 5 Texas A&M’s road wins at Arizona (54-44) on Nov. 25 and Pepperdine (70-60) on Nov. 29. She recorded a career-high 17 points on 3-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc and 8-of-9 makes from the free throw line in a career-high 22 minute of action versus the Waves. Carter helped lead the Aggies to the Timeout 4 HIV/AIDS Tournament title and was named to the all-tournament team for her efforts.

She also scored her first career points as an Aggie on a three-pointer at the 9:05 minute mark of the first half at Arizona and ended the night with six points in just nine minutes of action. For the week, she ranked third on the team in scoring averaging 8.7 points with a team-best 71.4 percent accuracy from the floor including a team-high 5-of-6 three-pointers made from downtown.

Carter is the third consecutive Aggie freshman to win weekly honors next to redshirt freshman and preseason Big 12 Conference Freshman of the Year Tyra White on Nov. 17 and freshman Adaora Elonu on Nov. 24. Oklahoma’s Whitney Hand was the other co-Big 12 Freshman of the Week honoree in this week’s voting.
