MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) - Shalee Lehning scored 15 of her 21 points in the second half to lead No. 25 Kansas State to a 73-63 win over the University of Texas at Arlington on Sunday.
Ashley Sweat scored 14 points for the Wildcats (9-0), and
Marlies Gipson had 12 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high five
Tamara Simmons and Meghan Nelson scored 24 and 11 points
respectively for the Mavericks (3-5).
The Wildcats opened the second half with an 8-0 run to take a
42-25 lead, but the Mavericks battled back to cut it to 51-48
midway through the half. With about two minutes left, Lehning made
a layup to put Kansas State up 69-58, and the Wildcats had a double
digit lead for the remainder of the game.
The Mavericks led 15-10 in the first half after going on a 9-0
run, but Kansas State answered with a 13-2 run to take a 23-17
lead. The Wildcats led 34-25 at halftime after scoring nine points
off 11 first half Maverick turnovers.
