WACO, Texas -- Garrett Gilbert threw for five touchdowns and ran for two more to lead Lake Travis past Longview, 48-23, in the Class 4A Division I championship game today.
Gilbert completed 26 of 37 passes for 356 yards to finish his
career with 12,534 yards, 2 more than Graham Harrell had at Ennis
from 2000 to 2003. Harrell led Texas Tech to the highest ranking in
school history this year.
Gilbert has orally committed to the Texas Longhorns. He broke
his own single-season passing record with 4,852 yards this year.
Cade McCrary caught scoring passes of 26 and 46 yards from
Gilbert. The other TD passes were to Chris Aydam, Andy Erickson and
Longview's Da'Cedric Hunt rushed for 106 yards and three
