SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- The revolving door on the defensive coordinator's job at Texas isn't spinning any longer. Will Muschamp is settling in for the long haul.
Just a few days shy of a complete calendar year at Texas,
Muschamp saw his annual salary more than double to $900,000. That
kicked in today as part of the promise that he'll be head coach
whenever Mack Brown decides to step down.
No one knows when that will be.
Brown, who has eight years left on his contract, says he is
having too much fun to retire anytime soon.
The third-ranked Longhorns have won at least ten games eight
consecutive seasons. That's the second best streak in NCAA history.
And if they beat No. 10 Ohio State on Monday night in the Fiesta
Bowl, they could start the 2009 season ranked No. 1.
So Muschamp, 37, could be like Prince Charles waiting to assume
the throne of England. But today he sounded like he can be patient.
