IRVING -- Texas A&M senior All-America candidate Danielle Gant earned Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week honors for the third time of her career as selected by a media voting panel on Monday for games of Jan. 5-11.
Gant led the No. 3/6-ranked Aggies to a 1-0 start to the Big 12 season with its 62-56 and second-ever all-time series win at Missouri on Jan. 10. Gant played flawless against the Tigers in the team’s league opener. She shot a career-best 10-for-10 (1.000) from the floor and 2-for-2 (1.000) from the charity stripe to end the night with a game-high 22 points versus MU. It marked her 14th career 20-point game and extended her current double-digit scoring streak to four-straight games. Gant also added seven rebounds and four assists to a colorful stat line in 36 minutes of action against the Tigers. Her perfect performance from the field reset the A&M single-game record previously held by former player Lisa Jordon (9-of-9) versus Oregon State on Dec. 5, 1987.
She currently ranks second on the team in scoring at 14.2 points per game and first in rebounding averaging 7.1 boards per game. Gant is two rebounds shy of moving into third all-time in career rebounds (781) in the A&M record books. For the week, she averaged a team-leading 16.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 1.0 blocks and 2.0 steals, while shooting an impressive 70 percent from the floor and perfect from the free throw line against Florida State and Mizzou combined.
An A&M player has now received Big 12 Player of the Week honors for the second-consecutive week and second time this season next to senior All-America candidate Takia Starks on Jan. 5.
