HUNTSVILLE -- Brianna Bishop hit a three-run home run in the top of the 10th inning as Stephen F. Austin defeated Sam Houston State 5-2 in the final contest in a three-game Southland Conference softball series Wednesday at Bearkat Softball Complex.
Sam Houston State won the first two games of the series 2-0 and 5-4 Tuesday.
Hailey Wiginton doubled to lead off the first inning for Sam Houston. With two out, Wiginton scored on a single by Calli Wood. After another single by Amy Brown, Whitney Wilson singled in Wood to give the Bearkats a quick 2-0 lead.
Stephen F. Austin got on the scoreboard in the top of the third as Benet Higgs singled and Kayla Gutowski homered to center field.
Freshman Tomi Garrison pitched the first three innings but Brandi Crnknovic came out of the bull pen with SFA runners on first and second in the fourth. Wiginton robbed Amber Price of a single with a catch behind third base for a put out and Kendra Spivey caught a fly in left field to get the Kats out of the inning.
Crnkovic drew the loss in relief although she gave up only three hits in six and two thirds innings. She struck out three batters.
