Men's Golf In 13th In Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, NV -- No. 20-ranked Texas A&M carded an opening round of 308 on Friday and is in 13th place at the Southern Highlands Intercollegiate at Southern Highlands Golf Course.

No. 4 Clemson leads at 283, followed by host UNLV (285), Arizona (287), No. 11 Georgia Tech (289), No. 7 Florida (290), No. 3 Oklahoma State (291), No. 2 Southern California (295), No. 19 UCLA (296), California (298), Charlotte (300), Auburn (302), No. 1 Georgia (303, A&M (308), No. 9 Arizona State (309) and No. 15 Texas (312).

USC's Matthew Giles, Clemson's Ben Martin, UNLV's Colby Smith and Georgia Tech's Cameron Tringale are tied for the individual lead with five-under-par 67s.

The Aggies were led by senior Bronson Burgoon and junior Andrea Pavan, who shot 76 and are tied for 40th. Sophomore Conrad Shindler is tied for 52dnd (77), sophomore Nacho Elvira is tied for 63rd (79) and freshman Jordan Russell is tied for 76th (83). Sophomore John Hurley, playing as an individual, is tied for 73rd (82).

"It was a rough round for us today," A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. "The guys gave it all they had but they were focused on the wrong things. They tried to force it a little and it kind of went downhill from there. We still have 36 holes left to try to right our ship."
