Former Raider Linebacker Hastings Passes Away

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Brad Hastings, a three-time
all-Southwest Conference linebacker who brought hope to Texas
Tech's struggling program as a top recruit in the 1980s, has died.
He was 44.
Connie Hastings said her son died early Monday of heart failure
at her home in Arlington. She said she received results of the
autopsy Tuesday.
His father, Fred Hastings, told the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal
his son had high blood pressure and breathing problems.
Hastings was Texas Tech's career tackling leader for 15 years
after recording 480 tackles from 1983-86. He's still second on that
list.
Fred Hastings said knee trouble kept his son from pursuing a pro
career. He was an All-American at Arlington Bowie High school in
the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
