BRENHAM -- The Blinn College Cheer and Dance teams finished their best seasons ever by placing second and third respectively in national competitions. The Cheer Team scored 9.152 out of a possible 10 on its final performance at the National Cheerleaders Association/National Dance Alliance collegiate nationals April 9-10 in Daytona Beach, FL. The Dance Team scored 8.935. It was the highest score and best finish ever for both teams.
The cheerleaders finished third in the small coed division II category to move into finals. They had to overcome a major obstacle losing one of their teammates who went to the hospital immediately following the preliminary performance.
“Luckily, the team had an alternate that was able to perform on Friday,” Coach Karry Forsythe said. “They pulled together as one unit to really push through all of their changes.”
The Dance Team finished third in Dance Division III to move into finals and made several changes to its choreography before the final competition.
“As the coach of these young ladies, I could not be more proud of their heart and strength they have given me all year long,” Forsythe said.
The Dance Team was also honored with being selected from more than 200 teams to be on the cover of the nationals program this year.
