Sam Houston State Finishes Sixth In SLC Women’s Golf Championships

LAKE CHARLES, LA – Wendy Joyner of Sam Houston state fired an even par 72 in the final round of the Southland Conference Women’s Golf Championships Wednesday to end the tournament in a tie for fourth place in the individual standings.

Sam Houston State produced their low round of the 54-hole tournament with a 300 to move up to sixth place in the final team standings. The Bearkats final team total was 310-319-300—929, putting them ahead of seventh place Lamar (932) and eighth place Nicholls State (952).

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi won the team title with a 54-hole score of 308-304-300—912. Texas-San Antonio was the runner-up with a 309-303-301—913. McNeese State (918) was fourth, followed by Texas State-San Marcos (919) and Central Arkansas (921).

Allie Jordan of UTSA was the individual medalist champion with a 73-76-73—222 total. Lacy McKinley of McNeese State (74-74-76—224) and Ashley Watkins of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (76-77-71—224) tied as runners-up.

Joyner (76-77-72—225) tied with Linda Parrow of Lamar for fourth place.

Other Sam Houston State scores and finishes included Kirsten Spitler (78-82-71—231) 15th, Amanda Carmona (76-82-72—235) 23rd, Katelyn Jones (82-78-80—240) 31st and Ellie McKinley (80-82-80—242) 33rd.
