COLLEGE STATION -- Two members of the Texas A&M baseball team were selected on day two of the 2009 Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday. Sophomore pitcher/outfielder Brooks Raley was chosen in the sixth round (200th pick overall) by the Chicago Cubs, while senior outfielder Kyle Colligan was a 12th-round pick (373rd overall) of the Chicago White Sox.
Raley went 7-3 with a 3.76 ERA on the mound in 2009 and was the Aggies’ Friday-night starter all season long. The Uvalde native fanned 95 batters in 93.1 innings of work, holding opposing hitters to a .237 average. One of the nation’s top two-way players and a unanimous first-team All-Big 12 selection, Raley also hit .304 with 19 doubles, two triples, a home run and 26 RBIs while swiping a league-best 25 bases.
Colligan hit .288 for Texas A&M in ’09 while starting all 61 games in center field. A native of Houston, he led the team with 15 home runs and drove in 45 on the year while slugging at a .545 clip. Colligan, who completed his Aggie career a few weeks ago, is ranked among the school’s all-time leaders six offensive categories.
The duo join junior Alex Wilson, who was a second-round pick of the Boston Red Sox on Tuesday, as draftees.
The 2009 MLB Draft concludes with the final 20 rounds on Thursday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. CT.
