Bryan, TX – After helping Texas A&M win their first national championship and securing a qualifying spot in last week’s U.S. Open Championship at Beth Page’s Black Course, is it any surprise that The Woodlands’ Bronson Burgoon sits a top the leader after three rounds at the 100th Texas Amateur.

Finishing the third round with a 6-under par 65 he will take a two stroke lead into tomorrow’s final round and attempt to become the 100th Amateur Champion in the history of the event.

Burgoon started his bogey-free round by birdying the first 2 holes of the morning tacking on an additional two for good measure to go out at 4-under par, 31. Two more birdies on hole #’s 14 and 15 secured the now former Texas A&M Aggie’s place in the final group with TCU’s Travis Woolf and Johnathan Schnitzer of Houston, both of whom were co-leaders at the end of round two yesterday and fired impressive third round scores of 70 and 69 respectively

Woolf had the epitome of an up and down round. After making a routine par on the par 5 1st hole he proceeded go on a four hole stretch of birdie, bogey, birdie, bogey, birdie going out in 34. A bogey and an eagle on the back nine brought him in at 1-under 35 for a finishing at 2-under.

Schnitzer had a less dramatic round posting three birdies to his card with a lone double bogey on the short par 4 2nd hole, but none-the-less good enough to put him in a great position take the title tomorrow.

The overall leader after round 2, James Sacheck, had a rough day sliding down the leader board to a tie for seventh place after posting a 7-over par, 78 along with fellow competitor Will Griffin, whose matching 78 slid him even lower to a tie for seventeenth place.

The fourth and final round will be contested tomorrow morning beginning once again at 8:00am with the final pairing group of Burgoon, Woolf and Schnitzer will tee of at 9:20am off of the first tee.
