Spearmon To Join Lee At World Track Championships
The fourth and final day of the USA Championships on the University of Oregon campus produced another pair of World Championship berths for the Aggies.

Eugene, Oregon – The fourth and final day of the USA Championships on the University of Oregon campus produced another pair of World Championship berths for the Aggies. Texas A&M volunteer assistants Muna Lee and Wallace Spearmon each qualified in the 200 final.
Simone Facey, an NCAA champion in 2008, earned a berth to the World Championships in Kingston, Jamaica, as she finished third in the 200 final of the Jamaica Championships with a time of 22.96. Veronica Campbell-Brown won the race in 22.40 while Shelly Ann Fraser claimed second in 22.58.
In the USA Junior Championships, also being held at Hayward Field, Aggie Kevin Burnett finished fifth in the 5,000 with a time of 14:53.69 while Michael Preble placed sixth in the 400 with a 47.84. Incoming A&M frosh Sam Humphreys finished fourth in the javelin with a toss of 212-2 (64.66).
Six athletes with ties to A&M were involved with the 200 semifinals today in the senior division.
The women’s 200 semi had Porscha Lucas placing fifth in the second semi with a windy 22.71 while Lee claimed third in 22.37 to reach the final. Jeneba Tarmoh ran in lane 1 for the first heat and placed eighth in 23.43.
Volunteer assistant Kelly Willie placed third in the first heat of the men’s 200 semifinal with a 20.41 that was assisted by a 5.0 wind while Aggie senior Chris Dykes finished sixth in 20.63. Spearmon raced to a runner-up time of 20.28 in the second semi behind a 20.19 for Shawn Crawford.
Lee, running in lane 1 for the women’s 200 final, challenged for the win as she clocked a wind-aided 22.13 behind the winning time of 22.02 by Allyson Felix. Lee is the only U.S. female sprinter to make the World Championships in both the 100 and 200 meters.
Crawford won the men’s 200 final in a windy 19.73 while Florida State’s Charles Clark finished second in 20.00. Spearmon made the U.S. team with a third-place effort of 20.03 while Willie placed sixth in 20.30.
