Roger Federer was able to turn 16-14 into 15.
Federer has claimed his record 15th Grand Slam title by
defeating Andy Roddick 5-7, 7-6, 7-6, 3-6, 16-14 in the Wimbledon
final. Federer broke a tie with Pete Sampras for the most career
men's Grand Slams, a month after winning the French Open.
Federer's day included a career-high 50 aces and 107 winners in
a match that lasted four hours and 18 minutes. The longest match in
Wimbledon finals history allowed Federer to become only the third
man in 40 years to win the French Open and Wimbledon in the same
year.
Roddick had 27 aces and 74 winners but fell to 2-and-19 all-time
against Federer.
Federer also reclaims the No. 1 ranking from Rafael Nadal
after losing it last summer.
