BREMERTON, WA -- The No. 12-ranked Texas A&M men’s golf team faces one of its toughest tests of the season at the Ping-Golfweek Preview starting Sunday at the Gold Mountain Golf Club’s Olympic Course.
The 15-team field includes 10 teams ranked in the top 25 in the latest coaches’ poll. The tournament will consist of 36 holes on Sunday and a final 18 on Monday.
Joining the Aggies are top-ranked Oklahoma State, No. 2 Washington, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Arizona State, No. 9 Southern California, No. 13 UNLV, No. 16 North Carolina State, No. 18 LSU, No. 19 TCU, No. 21 Chattanooga, New Mexico, Indiana, Kent State and Colorado State.
Representing A&M will be junior John Hurley, senior Andrea Pavan, sophomore Geoff Shaw, freshman Cameron Peck and junior Conrad Shindler. The Aggies tied for fifth in their season-opener earlier this month in Albuquerque.
“This will be the toughest field we face this fall and we are excited for the challenge,” A&M Coach J.T. Higgins said. “Gold Mountain is an outstanding venue. They are hosting the NCAA West Regional next spring and are in line to host an NCAA Championship in the near future. When you throw in the fact that we will playing one of the best teams in the nation (Washington) on their home course, it is easy to see we will have our work cut out for us. We have looked really strong in practice this month but our challenge will be to play more disciplined, smarter golf. We need to get a lot tougher mentally than we were last time out.”
