Dunbar Takes Home State Championship

AUSTIN -- The game had hardly begun when Fort Worth Dunbar's
Brooklyn Pope started dancing and shouting. This was going to be
fun.
Dunbar reclaimed the Class 4-A state title they lost last year
with a 62-to-51 win over Dickinson. Lashandra Hill's 26 points and
Pope's dominating defense led Dunbar.
Hill dribbled around and through the Dickinson defense for easy
layups the entire game. Pope added 13 points for the Wildcats
(32-4).
Hill was named the championship game MVP, the same honor Pope
won as a freshman two years ago.
Krystal Jefferson had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead
Dickinson (32-6), which got to the title game in its first state
tournament.
Dunbar won their first title in 2005 and lost in the semifinals
last season.
