COLLEGE STATION -- Megan Gibson was named Big 12 Player of the Week, the league office announced today. It is Gibson’s third conference honor this season, second consecutive, as she was previously named Big 12 Player of the Week to open the 2007 season and Big 12 Pitcher of the Week (Feb. 27).

In six games, Gibson was 7-for-13 at the plate (.538) with 11 runs scored and nine RBI while recording a double, triple and four home runs. She also posted a 1.692 slugging percentage and drew six walks in the Aggies’ six victories. The Spring, Texas native is just one long ball shy of tying former All-America catcher Selena Collins’ school career record in home runs (39). Gibson increased her overall batting average over 20 points from .457 to .479 after last week’s performance.

Oklahoma Sooner, Lauren Eckermann was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week as she was perfect in the circle this weekend. The junior transfer recorded a 0.00 ERA in three starts, while pitching no-hitters against Temple and Wichita State. The Brenham, Texas righty allowed four hits in 17 innings while holding opponents to a 0.70 batting average. Eckermann’s consecutive no-hitters marked the first time a Sooner has posted no-hit outings in back-to-back starts. Additionally, Eckermann opened the week with a win over Arkansas. Through three complete games, Eckermann struck out 16 and walked two batters to improve her record to 12-0 this season.
