Bearkats Win 10th Game In 13 Tries

HUNTSVILLE -- Left fielder Bobby Verbick hit a two-run double in the seventh inning to power Sam Houston State past Louisiana Tech 5-4 Friday night in the first of a three-game series at Don Sanders Stadium.

Jesse Marshall (4-1) gave up four runs on five hits and two errors in the first inning, then shut out the Bulldogs for the next six innings to earn the victory. Luke Prihoda struck out six of the eight batters he faced in relief in the final two innings to pick up his sixth save of the 2007 season.

Shortstop Jeremy Holzbach scored two runs with a single and Keith Stein brought in a third run on a sacrifice fly in the second inning.

Sam Houston State (12-6) scored five runs on six hits. Louisiana Tech
(14-10) scored four runs on nine hits. Luke Burnett (1-4) was the losing
pitcher for the Bulldogs.

The two teams meet Saturday at 2 p.m. at Don Sanders Stadium in the second game of the series.
