AUSTIN -- For more than three quarters, Shallowater put the brakes on Kountze's explosive offense. It wouldn't last.
Cameron Powell scored 24 points and Kountze outscored worn-out
Shallowater 22-to-9 over the final five minutes to make a
hard-fought Class 2-A state championship game look like an easy
71-to-57 victory today.
Shallowater's taller, yet still athletic lineup held Kountze
well below the 92 points the Lions scored in the semifinals and was
within one point late before Kountze created the turnovers and pace
to put the game away.
Clayton Busby had 19 points and ten rebounds for Kountze, which
won its third state title since 2004.
Wes Dipprey led Shallowater with 21 points and 15 rebounds.
