LAKE CHARLES, LA -- Led by Stephanie Mosley, who went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in, the Sam Houston State softball team pounded out 15 hits and faced three Cowgirl pitchers Sunday to win the final game of a Southland Conference series 10-2 score in six innings.
Sam Houston State took the series 2-1.
The Bearkats collected four doubles in the game including one each by
Mosley, Lauren Burns, Mandy Collier and Amanda Lindsey.
Sam Houston State's Brandi Crnkivic allowed three hits and struck out five. Liz Morvant, Courtney Lemke and pinch hitter Megan Beard all had singles for the Cowgirls.
Sam Houston State took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a RBI single by
Mosley that scored Amy Brown. McNeese took a 2-1 lead in the second on a two RBI single by Liz Morvant that scored Brooke Brodhead and Lemke. Sam Houston State tied the game in the third on a RBI single by Burns that scored Casey Everitt.
Sam Houston State added three runs on four hits in the fourth to take a 5-2 lead. The Bearkats increased their lead to 7-2 in the fifth before run
ruling the Cowgirls with three runs in the sixth with three runs on five
hits. McNeese was held scoreless for the final four innings.
Rachel Hodlik took the loss for the Cowgirls and fell to 5-5 on the year.
Hodlik gave up eight hits, five earned runs in four innings. Crnkovic
improved to 3-5 on the year with the victory with the complete game.
Sam Houston State will play host to Jackson State at 3 p.m. Monday at the Bearkat Softball Complex
