COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 46-ranked Texas A&M men’s tennis team will host longtime rival LSU on Saturday, March 17 at 11 a.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center.
First serve was moved up two hours earlier from the original start time to not conflict with Texas A&M men’s and women’s basketball NCAA Tournament games. No. 13-ranked LSU (7-2) will be A&M’s fourth home match of the week. The Aggies are in the midst of a six-match homestand which includes some of the nation’s best in Duke, Abilene Christian, Columbia, LSU, Tulsa and New Mexico.
Fans who wear green to Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day match will receive a free general admission ticket to watch the Aggies take on the Tigers at the Mitchell Center.
The Tigers have three of their own ranked among the top singles players in the country including No. 21 Ken Skupski, No. 37 Danny Bryan and No. 86 Kevin Dessauer. They are 5-2 against nationally-ranked opponent this season having gone head-to-head with the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in the country with a loss at top-ranked Georgia (6-1) on March 4 and a loss to second-ranked Ohio State (4-2) on Feb. 24. Skupski and teammate James Cluskey are ranked fifth nationally in doubles.
Last season, play was suspended due to rain when both teams last met each other on March 16, 2006, in Baton Rouge, La. The Tigers are 1-1 against SEC competition thus far, while the Aggies have yet to start Big 12 competition. LSU and A&M are tied 9-9 in the all-time series, but the Tigers have won the last two meetings between the two schools.
