HUNTSVILLE -- Sam Houston State plays the second series of its 20th season of Southland Conference softball against a team beginning its first year in the league when the Bearkats play host to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in a three-game series at Bearkat Softball Complex this weekend.

Sam Houston (12-11, SLC 2-1) took two of three games in the Bearkats' first Southland series on the road last weekend against McNeese State.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-20, SLC 1-8) lost two of three to Texas-San Antonio and was swept in series with Stephen F. Austin and Northwestern State in league play this season.

The Bearkats have won four of their last five games, taking a doubleheader from Jackson State 7-1 and 6-1 in non-conference action Monday. Sam Houston State has totaled 30 runs and 50 hits in those five contests after scoring only 12 runs in 56 innings while going 2-6 in their previous eight contests.

"The biggest thing we have done to turn things around is to start hitting
the ball a little bit," SHSU head coach Bob Brock said. "I felt like we have
been hitting the ball well this season, we just kept hitting it at people.
We have kind of turned things around and I felt like if we could get things going offensively, we would start winning games." .

Senior c enterfielder Stephanie Mosley (.391) leads the team in hitting.
Freshman first baseman Amy Brown sports a .329 average and junior Mandy Collier is hitting .327.

Brandi Crnkovic (4-5, 3.54 ERA) and Morgan Mikulin (7-7, 4.23 ERA) will be in the pitching circle for the Bearkats during the series.
