HUNTSVILLE -- Casey Everitt hit two home runs in the first game and added another in the nightcap as Sam Houston State swept a Southland Conference softball doubleheader from Texas A&M-Corpus Christi 12-6 and 6-3 Saturday afternoon at Bearkat softball complex.
Tanya Hooser added a homer in the first game and Janaye Richardson hit another in the second. For the day, the Bearkats totaled 24 hits including three doubles as well
The Bearkats pounded out 16 hits and took advantage of five Islander errors. Hooser went 3-for-4 and Everitt was 3-for-5 at the plate for Sam Houston State
Mandy Collier (1-0) got the victory in relief, entering in the fifth inning
and striking out three Islanders while allowing only one hit. Starter Brandi Crnkovic gave up nine runs on 12 hits and struck out five in four and one thrd innings.
Morgan Mikulin (8-7) was the winner in the second game, striking out six Islander batters.
Sam Houston State (13-12, SLC 4-1) and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-22, SLC 1-10) meet in the third game of the series Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m.
