COLLEGE STATION -- After 19-straight home games, the Texas A&M baseball team will travel to Houston to face the Rice Owls in a battle featuring a pair of top-10 teams. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Reckling Park.
Both teams are ranked as high as No. 8. The Aggies remained at No. 8 in the Collegiate Baseball Top 30 and at No. 16 in Baseball America’s Top 25. Rice is ranked No. 8 by Baseball America and No. 9 by Collegiate Baseball.
Texas A&M finished its 19-game homestand by taking two of three games from Kansas to improve to 20-3 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 Conference action. The Aggies continue the Big 12 portion of their schedule this weekend with a three-game series at Oklahoma.
Rice most recently swept Cal Poly in a three-game series to improve to 17-7 overall. The Owls begin Conference USA action this weekend when they travel to Southern Mississippi.
Right-hander Scott Migl will get the starting nod on the mound for Texas A&M. The true freshman from St. Pius High School in Houston will be making his eighth appearance and third start of the season. He owns a 3-1 record and an ERA of 3.63. In 22 1/3 innings of mound work, Migl has allowed 20 hits and has 11 strikeouts.
Rice will counter with junior righty Chris Kelley. Kelly has appeared in six games and started five. He has a record of 0-1 with an ERA of 3.70 in 24 1.3 innings. He has allowed 26 hits and 10 walks, while fanning 19 opposing hitters.
This will be the second meeting between the Aggies and Owls this year. Earlier this season, Texas A&M defeated then-top-ranked Rice, 4-2, at the Houston College Classic at Minute Maid Park.
The Aggies and Owls have played each other 260 times dating back to 1914. The Aggies hold the all-time advantage, 172-86-2.
