Bearkat Baseball Shuts Out Prairie View A&M

By  |

HOUSTON -- Junior righthander Jon Lindenberger was one out away from completing the first combined perfect game performance in Sam Houston State history when center fielder Greg Ford slapped a single between first and second base Tuesday as the Bearkats defeated Prairie View 13-0 in a non-conference baseball game at Don Sanders Stadium.

Junior righthander Casey Springer, in his first outing of the 2007 season
after recovering from an injury, retired 15 consecutive batters in the first five innings, striking out one. Lindenberger retired 11 batters in a row before giving up the hit. He walked the next batter, then got Odie Davis to ground out to complete the shutout.

Sam Houston State (17-8) rolled up 13 runs on 17 hits. Left fielder Nick
Zaleski went 3-for-5 with four RBIs and center fielder Keith Stein was
3-for-4 with 2 RBIs to lead the Bearkats at the plate.

Prairie View (16-9) used five pitchers with starter Fernando Almaguer (0-2) getting the loss.

Tuesday's contest was a make-up game of a rained out contest originally scheduled last week.
