COLLEGE STATION -- The defending Big 12 champion Texas A&M soccer team will continue spring season play when it hosts the Cougars of Brigham Young University on Thursday evening. Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. at the Aggie Soccer Stadium.
The start time for the exhibition match has been moved from 7 p.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate Aggie fans that also wish to watch the Texas A&M men’s basketball team’s NCAA Regional Semifinal game versus Memphis on CBS. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:27 p.m.
“We decided to move up the kickoff of our big game against BYU on Thursday to 5 p.m. so that our fans can also support the other big Aggie sporting events that day,” commented A&M head coach G Guerrieri. “We are happy to remain flexible for our fans, and know that there are a lot of people who’ll be supporting the men’s basketball team after our game and others who’ll go and support the women’s tennis team at 4 p.m. prior to our match.”
The Cougars posted a 17-3-3 record in 2006 finishing as runners-up in the Mountain West Conference and made their ninth NCAA tournament appearance in the past 10 years before falling, 1-2, to Portland in the opening round. To start the spring, BYU won all five of its games at the fourth annual Indoor Tournament held on February 24th. The Cougars defeated Dixie State, Utah State, Idaho State, Weber State and UVSC.
This will be the Aggies first match since returning back to campus from Spring Break earlier this week. Prior to taking a 10-day holiday from soccer, the Aggies had won all five of their previous spring games. This will be the first ever meeting between the Cougars and Aggies, although BYU played an exhibition at the Aggie Soccer Stadium last year, defeating the USA U20 National Team 2-1.
Admission to the exhibition match is free to the public.
