ARLINGTON -- Katie Jones and Dee Jay Nelson hit solo home runs in the sixth inning to power Texas-Arlington to a 3-2 victory Sunday at Allan Saxe Field and a three-game Southland Conference softball series sweep of Sam Houston State.
The Bearkats (14-15, SLC 5-4) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third on a single by Casey Everitt that scored Hollie Hatcher who reached base on a single down the right field line.
Brandi Crnkovia (5-7) allowed the Mavericks just four hits in six innings, walking three and striking out three. Laura Jones (8-4) was the winner for Texas-Arlington.
The Sam Houston State softball team returns to Huntsville Wednesday to play host to the University of Houston in a non-conference doubleheader.
