Wilkinson Takes Eighth at World Championships

MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA -- Texas A&M sophomore swimmer Julia Wilkinson (Stratford, Ont.) earned an eighth-place finish in the 200-meter individual medley at the 12th FINA World Championships on Monday evening.

Wilkinson, the third-youngest swimmer in the field, clocked a time of
2:15.28 in the championship final, the second-fastest of her career. She
finished just .02 behind Georgina Bardach of Argentina for seventh-place and as only four spots behind NCAA champion Whitney Myers of Arizona.

Wilkinson competed in the 100-yard backstroke during the morning session, placing 37th amongst 86 swimmers in a time of 1:04.02. A&M teammate Triin Aljand (Tallinn, Estonia) finished seven spots behind Wilkinson in the same race, hitting the wall in 1:05.53.

Highlights of Monday¹s competition will air at 3 p.m. today on Fox Sports
Southwest.
