HUNTSVILLE -- Jesse Marshall, senior left-handed pitcher from Montgomery for the Sam Houston State Bearkats, has been named as Southland Conference baseball "Pitcher of the Week."
Marshall was the winning pitcher in a 3-0 Sam Houston State victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the first game of this weekend's Southland series. He gave up only three hits and three walks while striking out eight in eight and one third innings. Marshall's earned run average for the week was 0.00 as he upped his season record to 5-1 and owns a 1.90 season ERA.
The award marks the second time this season a Sam Houston State player has been honored as SLC "Pitcher of the Week." Jacob Howard, a sophomore lefthander from West Columbia, received the award earlier this season.
Sam Houston State has won 10 of their last 13 games. The Bearkats are 4-2 in Southland Conference action, winning their first two league series of the year against Central Arkansas and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
Marshall has started seven games this season for the 18-9 Bearkats. He has given up only 41 hits in 47 innings, walking 14 and striking out 29.
