COLLEGE STATION -- Texas A&M’s Anna Lubinsky has been named the Big 12 Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Texas’ Vanja Corovic, the conference office announced today.

Lubinsky, a senior from Richardson, Texas, received the honor for the first time in her career after winning both matches at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles and helping the Aggies improve to 5-0 in the Big 12 and 14-3 overall with victories against No. 20 Colorado and Oklahoma.

Against Colorado, 24th-ranked Lubinsky defeated 35th-ranked Monica Milewski, 6-0, 4-6, 1-0 (5) at the No. 1 singles line. The victory marked Lubinsky’s eighth consecutive win, including her fourth consecutive victory over a nationally ranked opponent.

Lubinsky then tied the longest winning streak of her career, posting her ninth straight with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Oklahoma’s Monica Purice. Lubinsky improved to 12-2 in dual matches – all at the No. 1 line – and 5-0 in the Big 12. In addition, she remained tied for the school record for career wins (104) with teammate Nicki Mechem.

In doubles, Lubinsky and Mechem teamed to clinch the doubles point against the Buffaloes at the No. 2 line after A&M and Colorado had split matches on the other two courts. Ranked No. 34, Lubinsky and Mechem downed Milewski and Franziska Jendrian, 8-5.

The Aggie duo improved to 5-0 in Big 12 matches and 18-4 overall with an 8-6 victory over OU’s Purice and Christie Baxley.

Lubinsky and the Aggies return to action Saturday as they play host to the Rice Owls on “Dollar Day”. First serve is at 1:30 p.m. at the George P. Mitchell Tennis Center, and general admission tickets, popcorn, drinks and candy can be purchased for $1 each.
