BVCHEA Mustangs Return From Competition in OKC

By  |

The Brazos Valley Christian Home Educators Association (BVCHEA) Mustangs Basketball teams just returned from the 15th Annual National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships in Oklahoma City.

The tourney drew 268 teams from 20 states to compete in this season-ending event over spring break. Over 30 gyms in OKC were needed to house the tournament, which culminated at the Sawyer Center of Southern Nazarene University.

The Mustangs took 5 teams on their annual pilgrimage to OKC this year:

12 & Under Boys, coached by Dan Hale & Bruce Postma

12 & Under girls, coached by John Deisher

16 & Under girls, coached by Aaron Stanton

18 & Under girls, coached by Sabrina McManus and Jody Horn

18 & Under girls, coached by Jonathan Hines

Of these five teams, three of them took 2nd place in their division: the 12U girls, and the two 18U teams. Each team played in 3 seeding games the first half of the week, and moved to bracket competition on Thursday, for three games there.

BVCHEA Mustangs compete throughout the regular basketball season against both UIL and TAPPS teams in the Brazos Valley and other nearby regions. They also play against other home school teams from across Texas, including Clear Lake, San Marcos, Thorndale, Conroe, and Austin.

BVCHEA also sponsors a 6-man football team, a girls’ softball team, a girls’ volleyball team, and is in the process of forming a competitive swim team and a track team. For more information on any of these athletic opportunities for home schoolers, or if you have questions on home schooling in general, send e-mail to info@bvchea.org.

BVCHEA is honored to sponsor athletic teams for home schoolers in the Brazos Valley, and would like to, in turn, honor our athletes with an
end-of-the-year Athletic Banquet. All Mustang Athletes and their families
are invited to attend.

Our format will be a potluck supper, so every family is asked to bring at
least two dishes. Team Coaches will have the opportunity to give out their
team awards for Most Valuable Player, Most Improved, and the Christian
Character Award, and honor and recognize all the athletes.

Please mark your calendars, and plan to share that evening with us!
