Kids' Triathlon to Benefit Scotty's House

COLLEGE STATION -- A children's triathlon benefiting Scotty's House will be held Saturday, May 5, at Aerofit Health & Fitness Center on Villa Maria in Bryan.

The May-K Tri, a swim/bike/run event designed specifically for children ages three through fifteen, will include three divisions of varying length and difficulty. Adult guardians are invited to participate alongside their children.

The race is being presented by the Aluminum Kids Triathletes club in conjunction with Aerofit. Proceeds will go to Scotty's House, a local nonprofit child advocacy organization.

"Scotty's House is such a valuable organization for children in the Brazos Valley," said race co-organizer Nicole Pottberg, "and we're excited to have them be a part of an event that encourages children to have fun while getting fit."

While fun and fitness are two of the event's top priorities, so is safety. To that end, Pottberg said no child will be allowed to race without a properly fitting bicycle helmet, and children with little or no swimming experience must be accompanied by a guardian while in the pool.

The bike/run course will be manned by Bryan police officers and volunteers, and a licensed EMT will be on hand for the duration of the event.

The registration fee is $10 per child ($8 for each additional child in same family). To participate, athletes must be registered and checked in by 8:30 the morning of the race. Registration/waiver forms are available online at www.aluminumkidstriathletes.com/mayktri07.pdf.
