COLLEGE STATION --The Texas A&M volleyball team hosts a spring exhibition tournament all day Saturday at G. Rollie White Coliseum.
Admission is free.
Other teams participating in the one-day tournament are Houston, LSU, Rice, Stephen F. Austin and Texas-San Antonio.
Action gets underway at 9:30 a.m. with A&M taking on Houston and LSU facing Rice. The Aggies face UTSA at 10:30 a.m., LSU at 1:30 p.m. and conclude the tournament at 3:30 p.m. against SFA.
Three of the opponents have ties to A&M. Rice head coach Genny (Wood) Volpe was a four-year letterwinner at Texas A&M (1990-93) and also was an assistant coach under A&M coach Laurie Corbelli before taking the head coaching position at Rice in 2004.
UTSA head coach Laura (Neugebauer) Groff was an assistant coach at A&M from 1991-1992 under former head coach Al Givens. Groff’s assistant coach, Carol Price, is an Aggie and a former four-year letterwinner under Corbelli.
LSU head coach Fran Floury, was an assistant coach at A&M in the mid 1980s.a
Matches will be two games to 30 points. Wins and losses are not tabulated in spring matches, and a tournament champion will not be crowned.
