Kats Claim Win Over Mavericks

HUNTSVILLE -- Jesse Marshall spread nine hits over seven and a third innings while striking out seven to earn the victory and Luke Prihoda pitched the final inning and two thirds to pick up his 10th save of the season to set a school record as Sam Houston State defeated Texas-Arlington 3-2 Friday night at Don Sanders Stadium.

Karl Krailo and Todd Sebek each hit RBI singles in the sixth inning to
provide the Bearkats with the winning margin as Sam Houston upped its season record to 19-10 and its SLC record to 5-2. Nick Zaleski's sacrifice fly scored Keith Stein who singled to start the bottom of the first inning.

UTA (9-10, SLC 0-7) jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as
Daniel Rieder singled then scored on an error. Ben Burum added a solo home run in the ninth.

Marshall upped his pitching record to 6-1 with the victory. Prihoda broke
the school season record for saves (9) set by Richard Zastopil in 1991.
Prihoda also broke Zastopil's career record for saves with his 15th save Friday in two seasons.

Sam Houston and UTA meet in the second game of the three game Southland series Saturday at 2 p.m.
