AUSTIN, Texas – Texas A&M men’s tennis players Patrick Dean (Dallas, Texas) and Sameer Patwardahn (Mumbai, India) reached the semifinals of consolation play in the singles B draw of the University of Texas Invitational held Saturday at the Penick-Allison Tennis Center.

Dean, a junior, beat Giacomo Sano of UT Arlington in the consolation quarterfinals winning a third-set super tiebreaker, 6-4, 2-6, 1-0, while Patwardahn, a freshman walk-on appearing in his first fall tournament, defeated fellow A&M freshman Beau Blackshear (Brentwood, Tenn.) in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Dean and Patwardahn will meet in the consolation semifinals tomorrow at 9:30 a.m. (CT) for a spot in the consolation finals at noon.

In other action, junior newcomer Jack Seider (Austin, Texas) turned in a successful 5-2 tournament run in singles and doubles combined. He got past Leury Arias of Laredo Community College, 6-1, 2-6, 6-4, in the quarterfinals, but later lost a tough 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 three-setter to Jonathan Chang of Rice in the semifinals.

Seider and freshman Alberto Bautista (McAllen, Texas) also advanced to the quarterfinals in the doubles main draw, but fell 8-4 to No. 13-ranked and top-seeded Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala of host Texas. Patrick Dean and junior Calon Alpar (Austin, Texas) also dropped an 8-3 decision to Vasil Mladenov and Jon Wiegand of Texas in the quarters.
