AUSTIN, Texas -- She's still learning the "Eyes of Texas,"
and her sweater was ever-so-close to burnt orange.
Gail Goestenkors has time to work on her singing voice and update that wardrobe away from Duke blue. She was introduced today as the new women's basketball coach at Texas.
The 44-year-old Goestenkors says she'll be with the school in
Austin -- until she retires.
As Goestenkors put it: "This is it for me. There's no other job
that would interest me."
She takes over for Hall of Fame coach Jody Conradt, who retired
Goestenkors has a seven-year contract that guarantees her at
least one (M) million dollars annually -- plus incentives.
Goestenkors built a national power over the last 15 years with
Duke, but joined U-T for a chance to lead a program considered
among the vanguards of women's college athletics.
