College Station-- Multiple sources are indicating that Texas A&M has targeted Wichita State's Mark Turgeon as the most likely candidate to replace Billy Gillispie as the men's head basketball coach.

Andy Katz of ESPN.com and Terrance Harris of the Houston Chronicle are reporting that the Aggies have already made an offer to Turgeon.

The Wichita Eagle newspaper quotes a source who says stories about an offer may still be premature. However, that source does say that Turgeon is expected to talk to Texas A&M athletic director Bill Byrne about the job.

WSU athletic director Jim Schaus declined comment Sunday night.

The 42-year-old Turgeon is 128-90 in seven seasons with the Shockers. (Read Turgeon's bio from Wichita State at the Related Link below)

Turgeon and Byrne crossed paths at Oregon in 1992. Turgeon was an assistant coach for the Ducks while Byrne was Oregon's athletic director.

Billy Gillispie left Aggieland after three seasons to become head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats
